My Baby Boy and Me
It's three AM, they're all asleep,
and no-one's here to see.
As we rock slowly back and forth,
My baby boy and me.
His little hand is feather light
Tucked up against my chin.
I hold his tiny hand in mine,
and stroke his baby skin.
The house about us creaks and groans,
The clock hands creep around.
He snuggles closer to me still,
And makes his baby sounds.
I love these quiet hours so much,
And cherish every one.
Store memories up inside my heart
For lonely nights to come.
All too soon he'll be grown up,
His need for mama gone.
But until then I still have time
For kisses and for song.
Time for quiet hours like this
With him cuddled in my arms,
Where I wish he'd always stay
Protected, safe and warm.
And yet I know the day will come
When his tiny little hand,
will be bigger than my own.
He'll grow to be a man.
But until then he's mine to love
With no one here to see.
As we rock slowly back and forth,
My baby boy and me.

What a handsome little fellow! I love the poem! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Tanya :)!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit not alllll nights are like that ;), heehee. Sometimes you just really wish you could sleep and you forget to admire their silky soft fingers. But on the whole those nights are so sweet and it seems like a waste of precious time to sleep it away :)!
He is so cute! Cherish those moments. I'll never forget the day I held my son's hand and it was BIGGER than mine! I actually started crying. Where had the time gone? Now he is 18 years old and 6'5" tall. He is still just as wonderful, but I can no longer hold him in my lap and rock him.
ReplyDelete...for your comment Gena. It made me cry, but that wasn't a bad thing :). It is always good to be reminded of just how fleeting this time is, it helps you remember to keep your priorities right. I won't get this time back with my children ever again :(. Thank you so much for sharing your perspective.
ReplyDeleteI've already told Lee that I better start preparing myself now for his first shave...yikes...
That is such a sweet poem! My little man is 5 months old also.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cutie pie!
